Legal disclaimer: This article is based solely on documents released in the federal EFTA (Electronic Filing and Text Archive) production, made public through litigation, supplemented by the archive's entity index. All facts are drawn from those documents. This article does not assert guilt, wrongdoing, or criminal conduct beyond what has been legally established through Ghislaine Maxwell's federal conviction. Language such as "documents indicate," "records show," and "alleged" reflects the evidentiary basis and does not constitute a legal conclusion. Minors are not identified in this reporting.
Ghislaine Maxwell appears in 12,701 records in the InvArchives entity index — more than any figure in the archive apart from Jeffrey Epstein himself, with 2,311 direct co-occurrences with Epstein and a further 2,950 with the Southern District of New York. Rather than recount the trafficking trial that has been extensively covered elsewhere, this article traces a narrower thread the archive documents in unusual detail: the federal financial investigation that ran alongside the criminal case, from a December 2019 round of bank subpoenas through a New Hampshire property purchase, a search warrant for the house where she was ultimately arrested, and a post-arrest accounting of her net worth submitted for her bail fight.

Roughly seven months before Maxwell's arrest, FBI agents in New York were already building a financial picture of her. An email chain among Southern District of New York prosecutors and an FBI forensic accountant, dated December 6–11, 2019, shows subpoenas being prepared for American Express and USAA Federal Savings Bank records tied to Maxwell, with a request that AMEX also produce a reimbursement-of-expenses form (USAA & AMEX Maxwell Subpoenas, Dec. 6–11, 2019; USAA & AMEX Maxwell Subpoenas, forwarded with attachments). A related email from an FBI New York Field Office forensic accountant describes sending "AMEX and USAA subpoena riders regarding G. Maxwell" for service — routine language that nonetheless documents a federal financial investigation of Maxwell well before any public indictment.
One week after those subpoenas went out, on December 13, 2019, an entity called Granite Reality LLC closed on a $1,070,750 all-cash purchase of a property at 338 East Washington Road in Bradford, New Hampshire, through a settlement agent in New London, New Hampshire (HUD-1 Settlement Statement, Granite Reality LLC, Dec. 13, 2019). A separate internal financial summary in the archive, titled "Summary of Ghislaine Maxwell's Related Accounts as of 6/30/2020," notes that the address listed for Granite Reality LLC — 155 Seaport Blvd., c/o Nutter McClennen & Fish LLP, Boston, MA 02210 — is, apart from the ZIP code, identical to the address used for an entity called the Montpelier Trust, and that $785,339 had moved from a Ghislaine Maxwell UBS account into the Montpelier Trust's UBS account on June 24, 2019 (Summary of Ghislaine Maxwell's Related Accounts, draft, as of 6/30/2020). That same document states plainly: "On 7/2/2020, Ghislaine Maxwell was arrested at [a] residence located [in] Bradford NH." The archive separately contains the federal application for a warrant to search "The Premises Known and Described as 338 East Washington Road, Bradford, New Hampshire" — the same property Granite Reality LLC had purchased seven months earlier (Application for a Warrant, District of New Hampshire).
The archive's financial-account summary lists seven accounts tied to Maxwell as of mid-2020: a joint USAA account held with "Scott Borgerson or Ghislaine Maxwell," a personal UBS account, and UBS accounts held in the names of the TerraMar Project, Inc., the Max Foundation, Ellmax LLC, a Ghislaine Maxwell IRA, and the Montpelier Trust (Summary of Ghislaine Maxwell's Related Accounts). Years earlier, a signed letter on Maxwell's letterhead — one copy addressed from a Teaneck, New Jersey P.O. box and separately bearing a Southern District of New York evidence stamp ("SDNY_GM_00028252") — instructed her UBS Private Wealth Management advisors to transfer $14,200,000 in cash and securities from accounts titled to Ghislaine Maxwell into an account titled to the Angara Trust, along with several full account transfers (Letter re: Transfers to Angara Trust, Nov. 23, 2016; same letter, SDNY evidence copy). Separate UBS account records in the archive independently list the Angara Trust as a "Domestic - Trust" relationship, and a related Montpelier Trust document addressed to the same Boston law firm, Nutter McClennen & Fish, is dated January 3, 2019 (Angara Trust Account Number and Description; Montpelier Trust request, Jan. 3, 2019).
Six days before Maxwell's arrest, an FBI New York email chain dated June 23, 2020 and titled "Maxwell Passports" lists a U.S. passport and a UK/foreign passport under her name, forwarded between agents assigned to a Child Exploitation and Human Trafficking Task Force. A reply the same evening reads: "Southern won't budge on Monday indictment 6/29. Let's start getting the plan ready for Monday, reach out to the Tech people and make sure they are ready to go as soon as the GPS warrant is signed" (Fw: Maxwell Passports, June 23, 2020). A week later, an Assistant U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of New York circulated the signed paperwork under the subject line "Stamped Indictment & Arrest Warrant," with attachments named "Maxwell Indictment_20 Cr. 330 - signed & stamped.pdf" and "Maxwell Arrest_Warrant - signed & stamped.pdf" (Stamped Indictment & Arrest Warrant, June 30, 2020). Maxwell was arrested at the Bradford, New Hampshire property two days later, on July 2, 2020.
After her arrest, Maxwell's defense team at Cohen & Gresser LLP engaged the accounting firm Macalvins Limited to prepare a "Financial Condition Report" covering 2015 through 2020, drawing on her U.S. tax returns, bank records, and documents disclosed by the U.S. Attorney's Office for the Southern District of New York — apparently for use in bail proceedings (Ghislaine Maxwell Financial Condition Report, 2015–2020). The report states that Maxwell's net worth was approximately $20.2 million as of January 1, 2015, following the sale of a New York City residential property, and approximately $22.5 million as of October 31, 2020. It records that cash and equity balances of roughly $16 million moved among institutions over the period — including transfers "from JPM to UBS to Citizens Bank" — and that assets were held both personally and through entities including 116 East 65th Street LLC, Tidewood LLC, and Granite Reality LLC. The report also addresses a specific figure raised by prosecutors: "In its initial bail submission, the Government referenced transfers totaling more than $20 million in the earlier period of 2007–2011 which the Government described as transfers from Jeffrey Epstein's accounts to Ghislaine Maxwell's accounts and vice versa." The accountants concluded that, notwithstanding gaps in the historical record from banks that had since closed her accounts, "the bank accounts, investments and assets owned by Ghislaine Maxwell have been properly declared in her US tax filings at all times."
None of the documents cited here establish new criminal conduct; the financial subpoenas, property records, and warrant application document standard investigative steps, and the Financial Condition Report is an advocacy document prepared on Maxwell's own behalf for a bail hearing. Read together, though, the archive's financial trail — running from a routine bank subpoena in December 2019 to a cash home purchase, a federal search warrant for that same address, and a defense-commissioned accounting of a $22.5 million net worth — offers a granular, document-level record of the months before and after Ghislaine Maxwell's arrest that is not available in the trial transcripts or press coverage of her case. Maxwell was convicted in December 2021 on federal sex-trafficking and related charges arising from her association with Epstein and is serving a 20-year federal sentence.
