1,397 Documents: Deepak Chopra's Visits to Jeffrey Epstein and a Pitch to Fund 'Telepathic' Savant Research

Deepak Chopra — the wellness author, alternative-medicine physician, and founder of the Chopra Foundation — appears in 1,397 records in the InvArchives entity index. Emails recovered in the archive show that between August 2016 and December 2017, roughly seven to nine years after Jeffrey Epstein's 2008 Florida conviction and sex-offender registration, Chopra exchanged dozens of messages with Epstein and his household staff to arrange personal visits, forward philosophical correspondence, and pursue a joint funding effort for research into a child described as an autistic "savant." This article traces that correspondence document by document.

A Social Circle That Included Woody Allen

The earliest dated exchange in the archive is a direct email from Chopra to Epstein's own address, forwarding an extended philosophical exchange with physicist Menas Kafatos on the nature of consciousness and "the universe" — sent without any assistant as intermediary, indicating a personal rather than purely transactional correspondence (Chopra forwards "We are a universe claim," Aug. 10, 2016).

By October 2016, Chopra was coordinating in-person meetings through Epstein's office, confirming a 1:45 p.m. visit slot around his own schedule (Deepak Chopra 1:45pm ok?, Oct. 14, 2016). Two months later, an assistant emailed Chopra to ask whether he would "like to join Jeffrey, Woody Allen and Soon Yi for dinner" at Epstein's home on the evening of December 13, 2016, adding that Chopra was welcome to "bring along a guest or 2"; Chopra initially proposed an alternate time before confirming (Dinner invitation with Woody Allen and Soon-Yi, Dec. 12, 2016). Woody Allen's long documented presence in Epstein's social circle is covered separately in the archive's entity index, which records 3,435 documents naming him; this exchange places Chopra inside the same room.

An Overnight Stay at 358 El Brillo Way

In February 2017, logistics emails show Epstein's household arranging for Chopra to be picked up from the Four Seasons Hotel in Miami by Epstein's longtime driver, Janusz Banasiak, and driven to Epstein's Palm Beach residence, with an invitation to "stay the evening" and a return trip to Miami the next day. The email spells out the address directly: "358 El Brillo Way, Palm Beach, FL 33480" (Travel arrangements for Feb. 11–12 Palm Beach visit, Feb. 8, 2017) — the same Palm Beach property that, by 2017, had already been the subject of Epstein's 2005–2008 criminal investigation and the address tied to his registration as a sex offender. The email does not describe the purpose of the visit. A follow-up message days later shows Chopra sharing a PBS genealogy special about his own ancestry with Epstein's assistant "to pass along to Jeffrey" (Chopra shares PBS "Finding Your Roots" special, Feb. 14, 2017), and further emails in March 2017 show continued scheduling of visits to Epstein's Manhattan townhouse (Scheduling a Sunday visit, Mar. 22–24, 2017; Confirming a 4pm visit, Mar. 23–24, 2017). A November 2017 email confirms another such visit, giving the address as "9 East 71st Street," Epstein's Upper East Side townhouse (Visit confirmed for Nov. 11, 2017 at 9 East 71st Street).

"Let's Do It. I Can Get Some Funding."

Beginning in mid-2017, the correspondence shifts to a proposed research collaboration. Neuroscientist V.S. Ramachandran of UC San Diego and psychiatrist Darold Treffert — both prominent, publicly published researchers on "savant syndrome" — began corresponding with Chopra about jointly studying child savants, including one reported to exhibit "telepathy." Chopra wrote to the two researchers: "Let's do it / I can get some funding" (Chopra to Ramachandran and Treffert, "Re: SAVANTS," Sep. 16, 2017).

A month earlier, when psychiatrist Diane Hennacy Powell proposed the group examine a child savant reported to exhibit "telepathy," Chopra replied that he could "offer initial funding from current funds from our foundation to get started" (Chopra offers Chopra Foundation funding for savant study, Aug. 15, 2017). By late September, Chopra pressed the group to move forward: "Lets do a pilot ASAP with the kid identified by Diane" (Chopra proposes a pilot study, Sep. 25, 2017).

The clearest evidence that Epstein himself was asked to help pay for this research is an October 2017 email in which Chopra forwarded Ramachandran's cost estimate for testing directly to Epstein, writing: "I think a small grant will cover all expenses / If you wish to make a donation to our Foundation - that will be gratefully acknowledged" (Chopra forwards "MATH SAVANT" funding request to Epstein, Oct. 18, 2017). The archive contains no document showing whether Epstein made such a donation, or whether the proposed study ever took place.

A Reciprocal Invitation

The relationship ran in both directions. In late November 2017, Carolyn Rangel — identified in her email signature as "President, Deepak Chopra LLC" — wrote to Epstein's longtime scheduler, Lesley Groff, inviting her "and your guests" to attend Chopra's lecture at Goldman Sachs on December 1, 2017, noting that Groff would attend "as Deepak's guest" and adding, "No need to donate" (Invitation to Chopra's Dec. 1 Goldman Sachs lecture, Nov. 29–30, 2017).

What the Documents Show — and Don't

Taken together, the emails document a personal and professional relationship between Chopra and Epstein that continued for at least sixteen months, spanning two of Epstein's residences, a shared social circle that included Woody Allen, and an active effort to direct funding toward a research project on child savants. None of the documents in the archive describe wrongdoing by Chopra, and none indicate he was aware of — or involved in — the conduct underlying Epstein's criminal history. They do add a previously undocumented name to the archive's record of who continued to move through Epstein's homes in the decade after his conviction.
