2,837 Documents: Bill Gates's Meetings with Jeffrey Epstein and the Named Donation

Seized federal documents indicate Bill Gates met with Jeffrey Epstein on multiple documented occasions between 2012 and 2014, shared active email correspondence involving financial and philanthropic planning, and that Epstein's intermediaries conveyed an apparent offer from Gates to donate funds in Epstein's name.

Legal disclaimer: The documents reproduced and described below were obtained by the United States Department of Justice and released pursuant to federal court proceedings. All characterizations are drawn directly from those documents. No finding of criminal liability is implied or intended. More than 2,837 documents in the InvArchives Epstein archive reference Bill Gates, the Microsoft co-founder and philanthropist. Among them are scheduling emails, multi-party financial correspondence, and internal planning memos that document a years-long series of contacts between Gates, his investment vehicle bgC3 LLC, and the office of Jeffrey Epstein.

The bgC3 Connection: Boris Nikolic as the Bridge

A December 2012 Letter of Understanding between bgC3 LLC and Boris Nikolic establishes the organizational scaffolding around which the Gates-Epstein interactions would later unfold. The letter, marked "CONFIDENTIAL," describes an investment vehicle "wholly owned or controlled by William H. Gates III" structured as a Washington LLC. Nikolic — later named as a backup executor of Epstein's 2019 will — was tasked with sourcing bioscience and health-related investment opportunities for the new entity at a target rate of three per year.

The letter identifies Larry Cohen as the person responsible for "business management and communication services" to the investment vehicle on Gates's behalf. Cohen's name appears throughout subsequent email chains alongside Gates, Nikolic, and Epstein, indicating he served as an operational intermediary across all parties.

Twice in One Day: February 27, 2013

Scheduling records indicate that on February 27, 2013, Epstein's office coordinated two separate meetings with Gates at the Four Seasons hotel in New York. A scheduling email from Lesley Groff — EFTA00680356 — logs:

"2–3:30pm Appt w/Bill Gates at the Four Seasons" and "10:15pm Appt w/Bill Gate (again)."

A separate confirmation email from Epstein that same day — EFTA01902716 — instructs his assistant: "yes, get from boris the suite number," indicating Boris Nikolic managed the logistics for at least one of those hotel meetings. The scheduling record notes that a woman was also arriving at JFK that afternoon from London via Virgin Atlantic and was directed by Epstein's staff to the Four Seasons. The documents do not clarify the nature of her presence at that location.

The August 2013 Agreement: '$2.5 Million Advance'

On August 29, 2013, documents indicate a four-party email exchange between Epstein, Gates, Boris Nikolic, and Larry Cohen concluded what Epstein described as an "agreement." In a message marked EFTA00649520, Epstein summarized the terms:

"We are agreed. upside — 100% FM. 50% RG.. 2.5 million advance — jan I finish, date, boris sends email next week, signing next week, valuation method and schedule to be worked out for RG. no reference to last day in public email. larry to mark up draft"

Gates replied: "I agree it is great to have an agreement that works for everyone." The meaning of "FM" and "RG" is not elaborated in the visible text. The instruction to include "no reference to last day in public email" suggests the parties intended to limit the paper trail visible to third parties for at least one element of the arrangement.

Two days later, on August 30–31, 2013, a follow-up exchange — EFTA01960132 — shows Epstein advising Larry Cohen on the legal and tax structure of Gates's entities. Epstein wrote: "I need to get the structure of bgc3, bgv, and foundation." In a subsequent message he noted: "though no difference for Boris, there are many options for structure and your internal optics. that might be to Bill's benefit."

'Bill Gates Has Asked If He Can Join Me'

On September 7, 2013, Epstein sent a message to a redacted recipient — documents indicate the recipient was likely affiliated with a research laboratory — asking: EFTA01956071:

"Bill Gates has asked if he can join me in an endeavor. Is there a structure at you Lab, where a donation could be used for deception fun etc.?"

The phrase "deception fun etc." appears in the context of a query about laboratory donation structures. The specific "endeavor" referenced and the intended application of any donation are not elaborated in the document.

Gates's Alleged Offer to Donate 'In Epstein's Name'

On September 13, 2013, Epstein sent an email to Gates and Larry Cohen — EFTA01959043 — in which he addressed several matters:

  • A large donor-advised fund arrangement: "I just organized for a 300 million dollar gift that cost the donor zero."
  • An apparent offer from Gates, relayed via Nikolic: "Boris told me of your kind offer to donate money in my name." Epstein indicated his giving was "always anonymous" and that his interests lay in "smart people and breast cancer."
  • A suggestion that Melinda Gates visit the Dubin Breast Care Center at Mount Sinai, connected to Eva Dubin — identified by Epstein as "my ex girlfriend (eva, who you have met)."
  • The email closes: "see you friday."

Larry Cohen replied the following morning: "thanks again for the help, its greatly appreciated."

Eva Dubin is the subject of a separate InvArchives investigation covering approximately 2,300 documents.

Skype Calls and a Paul Allen Follow-On (2014)

Contact between Epstein and Gates continued into 2014. On February 24, 2014, documents show Epstein emailed both Gates and Larry Cohen: "can you skype this week?" — EFTA01933566. Cohen replied suggesting 9:30am PST on February 27.

A March 2014 internal alert — EFTA02111087 — records an inquiry about whether Epstein could "go see paul Allen after bill gates meeting," indicating a scheduled Gates encounter in spring 2014, to be followed by an attempted meeting with Microsoft co-founder Paul Allen.

The September 8, 2014 Day-Long Itinerary

The most detailed single-day record of the Gates-Epstein association is a scheduling email from Lesley Groff dated September 5, 2014 — EFTA00996142 — outlining the following itinerary for September 8, 2014 in New York:

  • 10:00am — Meet Bill Gates and Tom Pritzker at the Park Hyatt, 153 W. 57th Street
  • 11:30am — "Walk over to Leon Black's office w/Bill Gates, Maybe Tom Pritzker" (9 West 57th Street)
  • 12:00pm — "Larry Summers to join the meeting at Leon's w/Bill Gates (Is this happening??)"
  • 2:00pm — "Mort Zuckerman to meet you at 71st w/Bill Gates (or Four Seasons?)"
  • 3–3:30pm — "Meet Kathy Ruemmler at the Four Seasons w/Bill Gates"

A companion document from the same date — EFTA00996102 — lists Gates alongside Larry Summers, Leon Black, Mort Zuckerman, Kathy Ruemmler, Andrew Farkas, Peter Thiel, John Brockman, Boris Nikolic, and Richard Kahn as people Epstein intended to see during that New York visit. The document confirms the morning meeting as: "10:00am Meet Bill Gates at the Four Season Hotel" and shows Epstein asking whether Zuckerman should meet at Epstein's 71st Street townhouse or Leon Black's office.

Tom Pritzker — who attended the Park Hyatt breakfast alongside Gates — is the subject of a separate InvArchives investigation covering 1,183 documents. Leon Black's financial dealings with Epstein are covered in the archive's investigation spanning 8,105 documents. Kathy Ruemmler, former White House Counsel, appears in 4 documents involving a draft retention letter at Latham & Watkins.

Document Coverage

The 2,837 documents in the archive referencing Gates span the period from at least late 2012 through 2014. They include scheduling logs, multi-party email correspondence, internal financial planning memos, and corporate formation documents. These materials were obtained by federal investigators as part of the DOJ's investigation into Jeffrey Epstein and were produced in the course of related civil litigation.

This article does not assert that Bill Gates had knowledge of or involvement in Epstein's alleged criminal conduct. The documents cited describe meetings, financial and philanthropic correspondence, and scheduling coordination. Gates has previously acknowledged meeting Epstein on multiple occasions and has stated publicly that he regrets those interactions.
